Internet recruiting news

We launched a new website today that aggregates Internet recruiting news (and opinions of course) so please have a look at InternetRecruitingNews.com. I wish there were more relevant feeds available, but there aren't many bloggers or publishers who stay focused enough. Originally, I included an Onrec.com feed even though I was uncomfortable about the number of posts that are off-topic. And then I saw this in my feed:

Depression Awareness Week, 21-26 April 2008

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) welcomes the opportunity provided by Depression Awareness Week to raise the profile of and encourage more employers to address the stigma of mental ill health in the workplace

Resume flow builds in recession

Some interesting results highlighting the increase in jobseeker activity we always see in a recession.

CHICAGO, April 1, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- Monster.com recruitment ads drew 12.75 times more job seekers per advertisement in Q4 2007 than in Q1 2007 according to a study by New Office, an independent recruiting and staffing firm in Chicago.

Too Many Job Ventures

In The job problem — too much noise Matt Marshall writes

The number of new job-focused companies is overwhelming. The latest is Zubka.com, a new European company that pays people for referring suitable job candidates for listings on its site. Here’s your chance to win $3,600 for referring a Java architect for a job in Florida.

Business Week Covers Online Recruiting of Immigrant Workers

In a story titled Click For Foreign Labor  Business Week explores the use of online recruiters to hire legitimate unskilled workers:

When she could not find enough workers for the construction firm owned by her son Thomas, Ann Carroll decided to go online. After typing in such search terms as "construction laborer" and "Mexican workers," she landed on the Web site for Labormex Foreign Labor Solutions. Within days she had a quote: $100 each for 11 Mexican workers and $1,340 to cover the visas. In October, Carroll Construction Co.'s recruits began laying sewer pipes in Ocean Springs, Miss., where the company is located. "I don't know what we would've done if we didn't go this route," says Carroll. "We're very happy with the workers."

It's not really a story about job boards but very interesting considering how few employers will sponsor work visas.  With time and labor shortages, that should change.

The Resume of the Future?

Have a look at Rob Robinson's resume.  Is this the resume of the future?  When I looked at this, I tried to figure out how to turn the sound on for five minutes.  I hear a glaring silence when I look at this presentation, but imagine the impact with a good sound track - would be dynamite!

But ours will take shape starting with our recruitment page.  Have a look at this phenomenal example of a recruitment brochure -- it could have been written for us, in fact.  It describes many of the advantages of working for a small company with good management.
